Devi (2024)
30x40 cm, Oil on Canvas
An abstract depiction of a Goddess. Women are often revered as Goddesses, both divine and demonic, yet they find themselves having to hide some part of who they really are from the rest of the world. Here, I have used linear brushstrokes and a vibrant but warm color palette to show a woman as a Goddess, but the larger parts of her remain a mystery, shrouded in darkness. Her mouth is obscure, because it is not clear whether she has a voice or not. Her eyes, however, contain strength and determination. Overall, this painting is a commentary on the many paradoxes of being a woman.
